Repiping your homeIf the pipes in your home are old or are starting to creak, it might be time to consider having them repiped this spring. What better time of the year to work on the interior of your home than spring time? To find out more about understanding the tell-tale signs that your pipes need to be replaced or repiped, read our top Pratt Plumbing tips.

Wear and Tear

Your home’s plumbing systems are no different to any other home appliances or important parts – they can wear out just like the rest. Therefore, it’s really important to have an idea of when your pipes are approaching the end of their lifespan.

As a general guide, brass and galvanized steel pipes can last up to 100 years if maintained properly and regularly. Copper is known to have a lifespan of around 70 to 80 years while PVC pipes usually only last between 20 to 40 years. Of course, there are a number of factors that can affect these timespans such as harsh water, chemicals, and cold winters.

Rust-Colored Water

If your water is dark in color, yellow or tinted orange, this usually indicates that your pipes are rusting. As soon as you notice a change in the color of the water coming from your faucets, call a plumber straight away.

Leaking Pipes Are Not a Good Sign

If you notice that at least one pipe is leaking, this is not a good sign. Not only does it indicate that you have a problem with a specific pipe, but usually when one pipe starts to fail, the rest aren’t far behind. If you have noticed more than one leak, it’s, unfortunately, a sign that your entire plumbing system may be dwindling. In a situation like this, your best bet is to call a professional plumbing company such as Pratt Plumbing on806-373-7866
